Elechi disburses N200m to 6 rural hospitals
Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi State yesterday disbursed N200 million grant to six rural hospitals in the state.
The disbursement brought the total number of such grants to rural
mission hospitals since 2008 to N2.2 billion. The donation was aimed at
providing hospitals with modern, diagnostic equipment and promoting
training for health workers and mid-level manpower.The grant was also aimed at promoting maternal and child health, increasing immunisation coverage, providing free maternal healthcare and to enable the hospitals in the recruitment of skilled\expert human resource for health (doctor, nurses and other paramedics).
While disbursing the grants to the benefiting hospitals, Governor Elechi said the hospitals would include Mater Misericord Hospital Afikpo (N18million), Presbyterian Joint Hospital Uburu (N14.1million), Rural Improvement Mission Hospital Ikwo (N17.6million), St. Vincent Hospital Ndubia (N17.6million), Mile 4 Hospital Abakaliki (N15.1million) and Sudan United mission Hospital Onuenyim Izzi (17.6million).
He noted that despite the challenges of limited resources, the state would continue to provide quality healthcare to the people of the state.
The governor, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sunday Nwangele said his administration had embarked on construction of general hospitals in order to lift the hospitals in the state while the other general hospitals had been rehabilitated and equipped for optimal performance.
While calling on the rural dwellers to take advantage of the comprehensive healthcare system provided by the hospitals, Elechi revealed that the fund was sustained through discipline and output of the hospitals.
In his response, the administrator of Presbyterian Joint Hospital, Uburu Rev. Bright Igwe commended the state government for the grants and for rejuvenating the general hospitals in the state, which according to him would reduce the pressure from the mission hospitals and promised to utilise the fund effectively.
He however promised that utilize the grant to save more lives, saying that the fund had gone a long way in assisting the rural hospitals. ENDS
